Information for Parents and
Guardians
As
a student's parent or guardian, you are much more than just transportation to
and from class. You are an integral part of our training program. Advancement in the art of karate-do requires taking the lessons taught in the dojo -- seriousness and focus, courtesy, taking initiative, accepting responsibility -- and applying them in everyday life. Parents are expected to be our eyes and ears on our students outside the dojo. Many parents make us aware of report card grades in academics and citizenships, for example. At the minimum, we ask parents to make sure the specific examples we teach in the dojo are being done at home:

course, you will be the student's primary example! Evaluations
Before
each exam, the student must return an exam registration form which includes a
parent evaluation. You'll be asked to confirm progress, or a continued high
standard, in these areas. Students under the age of 16 are not allowed to take the test for their next rank until this information is complete. If lack of progress or a low standard is indicated, certain conditions, agreed upon between the parent, the instructor, and the student must be met before the student can test. If this is the student's first exam, parents should respond according to when the student started training. This way, performance at home is tied directly to the student's rank in karate-do.
